Mid-December Notes . . . important additions to our earlier notes . . .

The voter registration checks came in and were distributed on 12/8. It is up to each individual to cash/deposit the check and make a Disney deposit with the school. Students are to still bring me their receipt from the bookkeeper for individual credit.

The next Disney deposit was due Dec. 5th bringing the total on account to $171.00. Attached is a copy of your child’s current account. Several people still have marching band fees to pay and those MUST be paid prior to any further Disney deposits. Names are on the board and bills still outstanding will be mailed home over break since students have received two bills earlier in the year. Please take care of these bills!

On that note, there is a special opportunity for people 18 and over to earn money for Disneyland. You can earn $30.00 a session working the Mandarins Bingo Hall off Tech Center Drive. Contact our fundraising chairperson, Kelley Corder, at: lovessuperman75@yahoo.com. Space available is limited, so contact her ASAP.

I have information for families interested in going to Disneyland at the same time as the group. The Anaheim Residence Inn will give families the following discounts:
  1. 1BD Double Queen: $132 + tax = $154.69 per room per night. Room sleeps a max of 6 – with two per bed, including sofa sleeper
  2. 1BD King: $119 + tax = $139.48 per room per night. Room sleeps a max of 4 – with two per bed, including sofa sleeper
  3. 2BD King/2 twin beds (bunked): $169 + tax = $197.98 per room per night. Room sleeps a max of 6 – with two in king, one per twin bed, and two on sofa sleeper
Each individual guest must make their own reservations by calling 1-800-331-3131 by March 13th. They must identify themselves as members of the “Rosemont High School Music Group” to get the above discounted rates. All reservations must be guaranteed with a “major credit card.” Disney changes their passport costs January 1. I should know the new costs once we are back from winter break.

The Bee reports that the Rosemont area leads the way in charitable contributions. Please check here on our website www.rhsmusic.net and consider the Music Boosters as a tax contribution for the 2014 tax year. Ask family and friends if they would also consider this worthwhile organization. People can donate with a credit card or their PayPal account. If someone wants to write a check or donate cash, please email me at: rosemontmusic@gmail.com

A quick reminder to students, you have the opportunity to make up two practice charts over break. These charts should be labeled 12B and/or 12C.

Thank you so much for your support of Rosemont music!

December notes . . . a time for joy!

First, thank you to all who attended the fall concert right before Thanksgiving. Several adults mentioned it was one of the best fall concerts here at Rosemont. We look forward to seeing you all at the winter concert, Wednesday, January 14th, same time, same place. We’re working to issue concert attire to students prior to winter break so they can hem the pants/dress.

Next, at the concert we began our next Butter Braid fundraiser. Students receive $5.00 for their Disney account for each item sold. This week the top three sellers received their iTunes gift cards from the RHS Music Boosters as a reward for their hard work. The boosters will extend the same offer after this sale. Orders and money are due Wednesday, Dec. 10
th with delivery on the 17th, just in time for the holidays.

We got some big news this week. We got our results back from our Disney auditions and both the orchestra and band passed! They are scheduled for their workshops on Monday, April 13
th and their CA Adventure performance on Tuesday, April 14th. Now that I have firm student numbers I can notify chaperons of whether we need them and the costs involved. Mr. and Mrs. McLelland already graciously volunteered to pull our trailer, which we need for instruments and concert attire backstage.

On a related note, the December deposit of $57.00 is due the 5
th. Letters for those students placed on the waiting list were sent over Thanksgiving. Checks for the Voter Registration have yet to arrive. Please stay up with deposits so we can get bills paid on time.

Both band classes are in the midst of testing. The Concert band members are playing the solo in the back of their band book. The Symphonic band members are playing all 12 major scales and arpeggios. Memorization is extra credit. As I told them, when I taught at Einstein, my top band had to play them from memory, so they’re getting off light. ;-)

A tradition here at Rosemont, the orchestra and Symphonic band play for the school on Friday, December 19
th. The music is holiday-themed. They will play periods 1 -4 in the Large Theater. The 4th period guitar class will play Christmas Eve Sarejevo that period, the orchestra periods 1 – 3. Classes are invited to attend. You are invited, but must sign in at the office first.

Thank you for your support of the Rosemont HS music department.
